“This is from one of the artist gatherings at my studio to paint the figure.”
— Quang Ho
Getting together to draw, paint and sculpt from a live nude model is a classic activity among artists, perhaps popularized in Paris during the Belle Époque. This is a private gathering, without patrons, and an opportunity for artists to relax, exchange ideas and practice their skills. In Quang Ho’s oil painting, “Standing Figure,” the scene was created alla prima and intended as a single session work to keep the moment fresh, spontaneous, and alive. If one carefully focuses into the painting, one can detect the unobtrusive presence of other artists within the studio setting.
