Announcement:
'Peter Adams Creates First Rose for Tournament of Roses Public Art Program'
Peter Adams was selected to create for the historic Tournament of Roses Foundation the very first rose for Roses on Parade, a new public art initiative that aims to generate funds for children’s art education in Pasadena-area schools.
To kick-off this new program, Adams’ rose was unveiled by Tournament of Roses President CL Keedy and Rose Queen Dusty Gibbs, who presided over the festivities for the 2008 Rose Parade and Rose Bowl Game.
On the five-foot eight-inch fiberglass rose and vase, Adams created vignette paintings to pay tribute to many of Pasadena's famed landmarks, cultural institutions and important creative minds. To highlight the city's rich history in science, culture and art, Adams chose to spotlight on the three prominent rose petals influential Pasadenans who represent these areas: Noble-winning physicist Richard P. Feynman, America's first celebrity chef Julia Child, and California Impressionist Guy Rose.
His rose resided at the official Tournament House of the Tournament of Roses through New Year’s Day, before it was moved to Citizens Business Bank in Pasadena, which sponsored the creation of this rose. |
