Description
Glancing upwards to the left, according to some psychologists, signifies searching through one's memory to create a mental visualization of the truth. Adrian Gottlieb is fascinated with the idea of capturing individuals in moments of reflective thought. In his painting, Elusive, the artist depicts a charming young woman who appears to be searching her mind for the perfect reply. With a controlled palette and minimal brush, Gottlieb masterfully illuminates his subject and creates a convincing personality.

Definition of Piambura: Through the artist’s ability to render a translucent quality in oil, Gottlieb has mastered a technique which he has termed as piambura. The word is derived from the Italian piombo, meaning lead, as in the basis of white paint, and the Italian feminine suffix, ura.

“Gottlieb’s personal fascination with interpreting ephemeral, yet deep, thoughts as a form of poetic idealism in painting prompts a distinct art language that merges the worlds of Realism and Impressionism. By applying the classical skills of the Old Masters, his contemporary subjects are given an enigmatic and timeless appeal.”
