Description
This scene was painted in the mountains as evening falls, and displays the effect of lighting in the evening on the surrounding area. As Eric Merrell was painting, he noticed that the day itself seemed to be eroding simultaneously with the hills, both crumbling into the night. The sunlight itself seems to have a physical form that drapes itself over and melts onto the mountains, drowning them in evening light and contributing to the crumble of time. This piece reflects Merrell’s interest of capturing feelings and moments of time, and giving them meaning and life through his canvas.
