Description
In classic Greek mythology, The Three Graces represent a trio of personified female forms of various qualities, such as charm, beauty, nature, creativity, and fertility. Individually, each "Grace," or virtue,  is referred to in the Greek term as a Charis. Since ancient times and throughout the centuries, artists have been inspired to interpret their own idealized concepts of The Three Graces; such artists include Botticelli, Canova, and Raphael. With the Charis, Pasithea, Adrian Gottlieb finds a solitary muse in the goddess of relaxation and meditation and surrounds her with implements of repose. Pasithea was married to Hypnos, the god of sleep.

“Gottlieb’s personal fascination with interpreting ephemeral, yet deep, thoughts as a form of poetic idealism in painting prompts a distinct art language that merges the worlds of Realism and Impressionism. By applying the classical skills of the Old Masters, his contemporary subjects are given an enigmatic and timeless appeal.”
