Artist Statement
"I discovered this wooden-carved statue of St. Francis at Mission San Juan Capistrano quietly tucked into a niche in a side garden. St. Francis’s boundless love of nature inspired me to create a painting using my green colored lights as a symbol of nature. The scene was painted at night, en plein air, and I feel it has a certain haunting sense of mystery. The statue depicts the saint holding a dove in his left hand and the stigmata is seen in his right hand.”
