Description
Depicting the human figure has long been a tradition in fine art since the time of Classical Antiquity. Throughout history the depiction of the human form has embodied connotations from each passing era's prevailing culture, ranging from idealized athletic perfection to sublime elegance and simplicity of humankind at its purest. Artists often view the human figure as the quintessential symbol of nature's perfection.

One of the core influences immanent in Wurmser’s work are the portraits by Dutch artist Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669), who masterly painted his figures in compositions of light and shadows bringing an illusionary depth of haunting beauty and psychological intensity to his canvases. Calling himself a “voracious reader,” Wurmser delves into the philosophical writings of Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900) and Sir Bertrand Russell (1872-1970), as well as the scientific texts of Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519).

Wurmser’s art has been presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions across the country including the prestigious Salon d’Arts at the Colorado History Museum in Denver, the California Art Club’s Gold Medal Juried Exhibition at the Pasadena Museum of California Art, Salon d’Automne: The Third Annual California Autumn Salon at Morseburg Galleries and Edenhurst Gallery, Solo Exhibition at Morseburg Galleries in 2003, as well as a selection of Recent Works in 2005. In 2006 Wurmser’s Wayfarer’s Retreat won the Gold Medal for Best Painting at the 95th Annual Gold Medal Juried Exhibition held at the Pasadena Museum of California Art.
