Description The overall sense in this luminous oil painting by Peter Adams is of reverence. The contrast between the brilliant jewel tones in the embroidered robes and subtle nuances in the light streaming from the clerestory together create a spiritual atmosphere. Each year on the last Sunday before Great Lent when faithful Orthodox Christians adhere to fasting and prayer, the clergy and parishioners prepare in cleansing their spirit by asking each other for the forgiveness of any transgressions.
