Biography

Michael Situ is a nationally recognized award winning artist, inspired by the early California Impressionists. He is known for his luminous and richly colored landscapes of the coasts, mountains and other scenes that capture his imagination. Situ completed his art education in China at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Art, where he developed a deep appreciation for nature and a passion for art. He arrived in the United States in 1989 and now lives in Southern California as a full-time professional artist.

Michael Situ's work has been exhibited in numerous solo gallery exhibitions, museums, and national juried exhibitions such as the Arts for the Parks Top 100 International Competition, the Oil Painters of America’s Annual National Juried Exhibition, the Masters of Fine Art Salon International Juried Exhibition, and the California Art Club’s Annual Gold Medal Juried Exhibitions. Situ has been featured in national and international art publications including International Artist, Southwest Art, Art of the West and American Art Collector magazines. A book of his work, “The Oil Painting of Michael Situ” was published by Tianjin People’s Fine Art Publishing House of China. His paintings are collected at museums and numerous private collections throughout the United States and internationally. He has been honored by a number of awards, including Artists’ Choice Award at the Carmel Art Festival 2009; First Place at Huntington Beach Art Center Plein Air Festival 2007; First Place at the San Clemente Plein Air Painting Competition 2007; Artists’ Choice Award at the Sonoma Plein Air 2004; Museum Purchase Award at the Maritime Museum Plein Air Paintings Festival 2002; and Best of Show at the La Quinta Desert Plein Air Competition 2001.

Michael Situ is a Signature Member of Oil Painters of America, Laguna Plein Air Painters Association and Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters. He is a Signature Artist Member of the California Art Club.
