Artist Statement
The painting depicts an uncommon Southern California phenomenon - a summer morning lightning in the sky. Can you see it? That day it drizzled a little bit and artists were gifted a few fantastic lightning flashes to paint. I was working under a bridge with a group and do not know if anybody else has seen it, but I immediately laid it on my panel. Also, LA River itself is quite fascinating, too. I still can't wrap my head around the millennia-old innovation of concrete canals and particularly how normal vegetation is growing on them."
