Description
A tranquil plein air oil painting by Amy Sidrane capturing the essence of The Saint Joe River, a tributary of Coeur d'Alene Lake in a pristine part of northern Idaho. Beginning at an elevation of 6,487 feet in the Northern Bitterroot Range of eastern Shoshone County, the river flows generally west through the Saint Joe River Valley and through the town of St. Maries, where it receives its largest tributary, the Saint Maries River. In this scene, the river's surface gleams with a serene coolness, mirroring the emerald canopy of the lush forest that envelops its banks. There is a touch of warm sunlight reflecting off the background hillside.
Artist Statement
“The Joe is also called the 'Shadowy Joe' due to the lush trees shadowing the river. My original location study was painted in late July as the light slipped behind the canyon walls, witnessing the beautiful play of light and shadow on the Joe."
