Artist Statement
"The Pilgrimage" tells the story of a Tibetan grandmother carrying her new grandbaby on her back as they journey to Tibetan Buddhism's most holy site, the Jokhang Temple in Lhasa. The grandmother's face and hands are worn from many years of labor, but she is determined to make the annual trek - and to pass along the tradition to her grandchild. Tibetan Buddhists believe that the annual pilgrimage to Lhasa will bring peace and health to their familes."
