  • "My pastel plein air painting, "Sunset over Tejon Ranch," encapsulates the breathtaking beauty and serene atmosphere of a captivating sunset in this vast landscape. Through this artwork, I aim to transport viewers to a moment of tranquility, where the interplay of colors and the ethereal light evoke a sense of wonder and emotion. I was captivated by the ever-changing hues of the sky as the sun began its descent. The warm oranges, deep purples, and soft pinks blended seamlessly, casting a gentle glow upon the landscape. The rolling hills and expansive mountain ranges of Tejon Ranch became a canvas for nature's artistry, a testament to the harmony found in the merging of earth and sky. With delicate strokes of pastels, I sought to convey the vibrant verdant tones in the foreground and the subtle nuances of the sunset to capture the ephemeral nature of this captivating moment. The medium allowed me to blend and layer pigments, adding depth and texture to the painting, and inviting viewers to engage with the work on a sensory level. Through this artwork, I hope to evoke a sense of calm and inspire a renewed appreciation for the fleeting yet powerful moments of beauty that nature bestows upon us.”

"A warm traditional setting of water pitcher and fruit aren't enough to keep the spirits of these two orioles from taking the opportunity to escape when the canvas tears. I enjoy the technical challenge of showing the difference between the two dimensional quality of the bird left behind and the more three dimensional sense of the liberated birds. The painting is of course, as most of my work is, a metaphor for the desire for liberation."

"My pastel plein air painting, "Sunset over Tejon Ranch," encapsulates the breathtaking beauty and serene atmosphere of a captivating sunset in this vast landscape.

"Painted in Meeker Colorado on a bright shine filled day, these sheep barns were electric with color, bounced light and energy. As the sheep wandered in the yard, I found one who's attention was lifted upward, seemingly listening for a call in the distance, not a bad metaphor."
