Artist Statement
"First Light
on mountain spires
reveal brilliant
exclamation points—
morning prayers!

My favorite place to paint is in the mountains, and my favorite mountains are the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. I feel most alive and happy tramping around the lakes and peaks of this beautiful range—the “Range of Light” as John Muir called it—and trying to convey with paint my complete love and awe of this place. It is my cathedral. The best way for me to worship there is to camp—to be fully immersed, to feel the wind, enjoy the scents, hear the bird and animal calls—and be able to wake up early, crawl out of my tent and grab art equipment to record the first morning rays hitting the highest peaks!"
