Artist Statement
"Painting Our Lord’s Candle en plein air was a meditative experience, allowing me to immerse myself in the ever-changing light and quiet majesty of the San Gabriel Mountains. This area of the Arroyo Seco, close to my home and studio in Pasadena, has long been a source of inspiration—a place where nature’s beauty and spiritual energy intertwine. The yucca plant, commonly known as Our Lord’s Candle, stands resilient against the rugged terrain, its luminous blossoms reaching toward the sky. To me, it symbolizes strength, renewal, and a connection to something greater than ourselves. Capturing the play of light on its delicate petals and the surrounding landscape was not only an artistic challenge but also a reflection of my ongoing exploration of light as a metaphor for the inner spirit. Through this painting, I hope to share a moment of stillness and reverence—an invitation to pause, observe, and appreciate the quiet grace that nature so freely offers."
