Artist Statement
"This particular scene is of a very prominent Coastal Cypress tree located along 17-mile drive in Carmel. It's sometimes referenced as the 'ghost tree.’ I assume the twisted trunk ascending into the sky looking like some sort of Victorian ghost in flight is what inspired that thought. This quality of fluid, upward motion, is what drew me to the scene and what I wanted to convey most. I am always amazed at the fortitude of these trees surviving year after year in sometimes harsh conditions, such as rain, wind, and fog. Still, it is specifically those conditions that give them such character, grace, and natural beauty."
