Artist Statement
“I have two favorite subjects: fish, and flowers. Only rarely are these two subjects found together in nature, so this painting took a bit of staging. It is my goal to both lose the subject in paint and simultaneously present it in an honest and convincing way. Thereby as space and motion let the scene fall in and out of focus then, color, shape, and value become the subject, thereby losing themselves into the confines of representation, only to find themselves important again in a whole new way.”
