Artist Statement “An exciting discovery for me was finding this intimate cove located off the beaten path in the southeastern corner of Point Lobos Nature Reserve. The ocean’s surging energy forced between the vertical rocky walls of this inlet was captivating. In painting this work, I particularly loved illuminating the patterns and transparency of the crashing shore break in the foreground on the right. I then composed an echoing effect by emphasizing a crashing wave in the middle distance to the left as well as in the background. By creating this rhythmic effect and by modeling the surface of the water, the theme becomes the power of the surf and foam that ebb and flow in nature.”
