Artist Statement
"Few spots along the California coast compare to the unmistakable drama and radiance of the Big Sur coastline. I’m particularly drawn to the sunlight scattering across the surface in broken shapes, illuminating the restless surface of the sea. The dramatic waves- against warm dark cliffs—set up a contrast to the distant headlands softened by atmospheric haze.
I’m drawn to both the immediacy and structure involved in this subject. The sculptured cliffs contrast with the fluid, shimmering passages of water. Subtle color shifts—and color harmonies of this subject keep bringing me back here.
This subject offers an unending appeal to me—capturing not just a place, but a fleeting moment in time along one of California’s most revered shorelines."
