Description
Although titled Thanksgiving, Eric Merrell has not given us a traditional display of Thanksgiving food that one has come to associate with the holiday. Instead, the objects pictured are other products of November: persimmons, pomegranates, and amaryllis. This painting has great personal meaning to the artist; all of the plants depicted were planted in the house that he and his wife, Ramona, had lived in for several years. The deep family connection found in this scene, along with the spirit of giving and life, connect together to create an untraditional, but highly meaningful, portrait of Thanksgiving.
