Description
The painting depicts elements from Jim McVicker's studio. Bold in stature and vivid color are the two amaryllis seen here standing side-by-side in upright attention. The amaryllis is a symbol in the artist's life that holds a special meaning. McVicker received his first plant from a friend at the time of his announcing his wedding engagement. Since that time, each spring the artist celebrates his anniversary with a pair of amaryllis to symboloze the couple's love for one another. Additionally intriguing is the three-dimensional effect of the Oriental carpet, as it creates a backdrop to the scene that meanders and folds at the base and seemingly out of its plane. The design in the carpet is also part of the story. It relates to the story of Paradise and the Garden of Eden in Genesis. The central quadrilateral represents the four rivers in the Garden of Eden as described in Genesis 2:10–14: Pishon, Gihon, Tigris, and Euphrates.
