Description
This plein air landscape painting by Orrin White was created in the spring after a storm had deposited snow on the distant mountain range in what appears to be San Jacinto Peak in Riverside County, California. The stand of trees in the foreground, like visual sentries, reveal the zigzagging pathway of the river as it meanders through the verdant valley floor. Orrin White shows what pristine Southern California, east of Los Angeles, was like prior to its development and to the rise in population following World War II. In 1940 White held a solo exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, one of their last exhibitions for a California Impressionist.
