Artist Statement
“Hosp Grove Park, to my knowledge, is the largest eucalyptus forest in Southern California. It lies on the border of Oceanside and Carlsbad, near the Beuna Vista Lagoon. I painted this scene just after a rainstorm, as the clouds began to clear and the sun dipped low on the horizon. The warm hues of the sunset—radiant oranges and reds—combined with the clarity of the atmosphere to create a luminous, almost ethereal effect that set the tone for the entire composition.

What captivated me most was the layered arrangement of the eucalyptus trees, beginning with their silhouetted forms in the foreground. The lyrical shapes of their trunks and limbs, along with the delicate rhythm of their foliage, offered a natural poetry that guided the design of this fleeting, magical moment.”
