Artist Statement "When we were younger, hiking above 8,000 feet was nothing. Today, I struggle. Some rode horseback or mules as we were struggling over rocks and uneven pathways. The Mammoth area in the Owens Valley was a favorite of Edgar Payne, William Wendt, Franz Bischoff, and so it is with me and many other contemporary painters. What attracts me are the deep blue shadows, the shapes of the granite that through eons has been molded and carved by the elements. I love it even more if a bit of snow remains. I have been hoping to take a pack train into the High Sierra to paint for a week and hope to do so before I'm no longer able to experience what the Early California painters did almost a century ago."
