Artists Statement
"Rolling Surf, Leo Carrillo Beach is my attempt to translate the rhythm and energy of the Pacific into paint. I’ve spent countless mornings along this stretch of coastline, studying how the surf gathers itself—how it rises, spills forward, crashes and reforms in an endless cycle of motion. In this painting, I wanted to capture not just the physical structure of the waves, but the feeling of standing at the edge of the water with a view of the iconic fife guard station.

My process starts with direct observation. I sketch on-site, absorbing the nuances of shifting color and fleeting reflections, then return to the studio to distill those impressions into a more deliberate composition. Rather than chasing a literal likeness, I aim for something essential— its weight and transparency, the quiet drama of light glancing across its surface.

To me, the ocean is a force that invites both humility and wonder. With this piece, I hope to offer viewers a moment of stillness within movement, a sense of standing at the shore and witnessing a moment of time at the sea."
