Artist Statement
"I scour antique malls and thrift stores for beautiful and unusual objects to use in my still life and trompe l'oeil paintings. What a wonderful excuse to shop! This old porcelain wall sconce fit the bill for a bountiful abundance of roses and peonies. The petal colors range from warm yellows and oranges to cool violet pinks, and the arrangement was absolutely serendipitous and spontaneous. I just piled them in, and the composition was almost complete.
Three Violet Throated hummingbirds, two males and one female complete and balance the scene."
