Description
The Spirit of Dana point captures the atmosphere of the harbor through one of its most iconic features, a replica of the 19th century sailing brig Pilgrim. Impasto is used to literally sculpt the brig into existence from paint, inviting a delightful sensory experience full of alternating warm and cool tones. Expressive brushstrokes convey a myriad of abstracted details, deep reds, browns, and oranges make up the bulk of the brig, while the soft violets and blues render the sea and sky. The interplay of human presence and the sea is beautifully rendered in a way that defines Dana Point’s essence, that of a uniquely coastal spirit.
