Artist Statement
"I have painted cattle into many of my landscapes but never goats or sheep. As we drove past looking for painting locations in the western part of the Tehachapi Valley, on our way to the Dormer Winery, we saw hundreds of sheep feeding on dry grass and weeds. The yellow house with the red roof was a quarter mile to the right on Banducci Road, but I decided to use it in the sheep grazing composition rather than the sheep herder's trailer that was near the trees. The final composition worked well with the placement of the animals, the brown hills and the accurately depicted distant mountains, giving reality to the scene."
