Painted en plein air in the rolling Sierra foothills near Copperopolis, California, Ray Roberts’ Sierra Creek; Copperopolis, California captures the immediacy and vitality of a spring day in the landscape. Working directly before his subject, Roberts records the ever-changing effects of light and atmosphere as a meandering creek winds through fields ablaze with California poppies beneath a dramatic sky of sunlit clouds.
